LEVOIT Smart Humidifier for Large Rooms

BEST OVERALL

At A Glance

Levoit’s smart humidifier is pretty much the ‘go-to’. Besides the high-tech smart features, it’s also one heck of a humidifier in the traditional sense. It has high water tank capacity, powerful humidification capabilities, and all the adjustability you could ever need.

Design

The Levoit Smart Humidifier isn’t exactly a looker, but the design is quite utilitarian, which we love. It’s made of high quality materials and we didn’t have any concerns about the build.

The controls are nice and intuitive, and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure them out.

One feature of the build that we absolutely love is the see-through water tank. This allows you to notice any build up or mineral deposits before they get out of hand. It also lets you quickly check to see if the tank is running out.

Water Tank Capacity

Levoit put an absolute mammoth of a tank on their flagship model. It measures in at around 6 liters, which is pretty much the standard in high-capacity humidifiers these days.

Unlike some humidifiers which require you to mess around with a million screws and panels in order to refill the tank, this one is pretty easy to top-up thanks to the convenient lid. The opening is also wider, so spills are a rarity with this smart humidifier.

Runtime

High water tank capacity means more enduring runtime. The Levoit sets the bar for other smart humidifiers, with a runtime of 40 hours on medium-ish mist volume settings. And at lower settings, we got even higher runtimes!

Turn up the mist volume, and you’ll find that the runtime doesn’t suffer nearly as much as with other units.

Coverage

Coverage is another forte of the Levoit smart humidifier. It is rated to cover over 750 sq-ft of space, which few others can even come close to.

This humidifier is really effective, even when using it in larger living rooms, hallways, offices, and the like.

Mist Volume

Such expansive coverage comes as no surprise, since the Levoit smart humidifier can output mist at a rate of 600 ml/hr. That means instant humidification as soon as you turn the machine on.

It also makes for some speedy humidification, and we never had to wait around for the unit to do its thing.

Noise Levels

Noise levels are low, though not as low as we had hoped. The large size and high mist volume do mean you get a slight hum. But even that is only really noticeable when you’re right up close with the humidifier and the room is completely silent.

For real world use, this unit is virtually silent.

Special Features

So what makes this smart humidifier so smart? Well, if your average smart humidifier reads at a 12th grade level, this one is a college professor.

First and foremost, it has an automatic humidity mode that uses integrated sensors to gauge relative humidity in a space and intelligently regulate it without any input required. It isn’t the most accurate thing we’ve ever seen, but works well enough most of the time.

Next up, you get full app integration with this model. The app lets you control various functions, schedule custom on/off times throughout the work week, and monitor the performance of the unit as it works.

The cool part about this app is that it doesn’t need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your humidifier, as is the case with so many humidifiers. That means you can even control it from the road and be greeted by the perfect environment when you get home.

Next up, it is fully compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, making integration with your smart home setup a breeze. The voice control feature also works well, and we have no complaints.

Wrapping up some other special features, we have an aromatherapy function, cool and warm mist modes, a filter-free design, and a remote that lets you control all of the functions of this smart humidifier.

Who’s It For?

Put simply, the Levoit’s smart humidifier is for the person who needs it all, and a little bit more. This unit has every function and smart feature you need, plus a couple you might never need, but that are good to have.

Pros
  • Large 6 liter water tank
  • Almost 50 hour runtime
  • Over 750 sq-ft of coverage
  • Maximum mist volume of 600 ml/hr
  • Best in class humidification
  • Fully adjustable mist speed/volume
  • Auto humidity control offered
  • Impressive cool/warm mist mode
  • Excellent choice for smokers
  • Aromatherapy function
  • Cleaning brush, aroma pads, and absorption pads included in the box
  • Full suite of smart features, app integration, voice control, smart scheduling
  • Remote control available
Cons
  • Slightly louder than some other models

LEVOIT Ultrasonic Humidifier

BEST BUDGET

At A Glance

This Levoit ultrasonic humidifier shares a lot of the features with our top pick. It is well built and sturdy, with almost all the features from the last one, albeit with slightly lower performance that is offset by a discounted price.

Design

Other manufacturers need to take some lessons from Levoit when it comes to humidifier design. Their ultrasonic humidifier has a large, fully exposed water tank that lets you keep an eye out for any mineral build up, mold, and the like.

The digital display on this model isn’t as large as the last one, and you don’t get nearly as many controls. But even that is a nice minimalist touch that a lot of people will enjoy.

As for refilling, this water tank has that same ergonomic design that we loved on the last one, so refilling is a breeze.

Water Tank Capacity

Thankfully, water tank capacity is also the same as before. You get all 6 of those liters, and all the benefits that go with such a large water tank.

Runtime

The first of those benefits is the longer runtime of around 60 hours on a full tank. This beats out our top pick by a considerable margin, but more on why later.

For now, just focus on the industry leading runtime and the fact that you won’t have to refill this smart humidifier nearly as often as others.

Coverage

Coverage does take a hit, compared to our top pick from Levoit. This particular model is rated to cover just over 500 sq-ft, which is a significant drop compared to the 750 sq-ft being offered by the last one.

Still, 500 sq-ft is ample for the vast majority of spaces. It is actually more than enough to humidity larger spaces, and small to medium rooms are a piece of cake for this powerful smart humidifier.

Mist Volume

You’ve probably guessed how this one is gonna go. This smart humidifier has the same water tank capacity as the other one, but significantly lower coverage and noticeably higher runtime. So what gives?

The mist volume is what.

This humidifier can ‘only’ manage 500 ml/hr, compared to the  600 ml/hr of our top pick. That means you get better runtime, but at the cost of overall coverage. It also means that this humidifier isn’t as quick to humidify larger spaces.

To be fair, 500 ml/hr is on the high end of mist volume for most smart humidifiers. And this unit makes short work of humidifying even the largest of rooms, providing consistent, quick humidification.

It’s just that the other one does it a little bit faster and a bit more efficiently. Still, you get full control over the mist volume settings via a large knob up front. This puts the Levoit ultrasonic humidifier above its competition in the budget-friendly smart humidifier space.

Noise Levels

One area where this smart humidifier has its older brother beat, however, is noise levels. We did not even notice this smart humidifier making the slightest bit of noise, music less becoming annoying or distracting.

Special Features

Moving on to the special features of this unit, you’ll see a lot of familiar faces. It has the same automatic humidity control that we loved on the last one.

Other smart features that are carried over include app integration, voice control, and smart home integration.

These bring all of the features we loved on the other model, such as the scheduling of on/off times, complete control over the various features, and the ability to monitor the unit’s performance in real time.

An essential oil tray is also present, as are some aroma pads that smell really nice.

A notable omission is the cool and warm mist modes we saw on the last unit, but that’s not deal breaker.

And lastly, the inexpensive price of this budget-friendly smart humidifier might as well be a feature in and of itself!

Who’s It For?

This Levoit ultrasonic humidifier is for the person who loved the features and functionality of our top pick, but scoffs at the price. This budget-friendly alternative offers most of the same, albeit at a lower price.

Pros
  • 6 liter water tank
  • 60 hour runtime
  • Can cover over 500 sq-ft of space
  • 300 ml/hr maximum mist volume
  • Customizable mist volume
  • Large knob for adjusting the mist volume
  • Provides a wide range of adjustment
  • 360 degree adjustable mist nozzle
  • Can direct mist to any spot in a room
  • Integrated gran handles
  • Make it easier to move this large humidifier
  • Easier to clean
  • See-through water tank
  • Lets you notice any mineral deposits more quickly
  • Surprisingly quiet for such a large humidifier
  • Best easy to clean humidifier
Cons
  • Large size may prevent placement in tighter spots

Elechomes Smart Humidifier

WORTH CONSIDERING

At A Glance

The Elechomes smart humidifier gives even our top pick a run for its money. This unit combines most of the same performance and smart functionality, in a more attractive shell that fits right into the modern home.

Design

The design and build quality of this unit is one of its strongest suits. It sports a boxy, all-white look, with a large and ergonomic control panel up front.

A digital screen is cleverly integrated into the panel so that it stays out of the way when you don’t need it, and only displays the most relevant information that you absolutely need.

It is a bit heavier than even its own contemporaries, so you’ll be better off finding a permanent spot for it in your home.

Water Tank Capacity

Water tank capacity is a hair under the best of the best, coming in at a generous 5.5 liters. This is lower than the top contender on our list, but still head and shoulders above most smart humidifiers.

Refilling this tank is pretty easy, thanks to the top-fill design. We would have liked to see an even wider opening, but the one you get keeps everything nice and spill-free.

Runtime

The lower water tank capacity does mean you’ll have to settle for a mere 55 hours of constant operation, compared to 60 on our top pick. Truly disappointing.

That’s sarcasm, by the way. For most use cases, 55 hours of constant operation is the gold standard. What’s more, the decrease in runtime that comes as a result of higher mist volume is not as sharp here as on other models we tested.

Coverage

The coverage rating of this smart humidifier and our top pick is neck and neck. The Elechomes will easily cover the largest of rooms, upto 755 sq-ft.

Even in larger rooms, we got a consistent level of humidity throughout the entire space.

Mist Volume

Not that it’s a surprise as to why this humidifier has such amazing coverage. The maximum mist volume is rated for over 600 ml/hr. But we suspect that Elechomes are under-reporting, since we got even faster humidification of a space with this humidifier than with our top pick.

One drawback here is that you will have to settle for just 3 preset levels for the humidity, as opposed to more customizable controls. This is a major missed opportunity on such a high performance humidifier.

You also get customizable mist speed, which doesn’t go unnoticed.

Noise Levels

Noise levels on this high performance smart humidifier are non-existent. Even in quiet environments, we never got anything even remotely resembling noise.

Special Features

A 360 degree adjustable nozzle is featured here, which we love. This type of adjustable nozzle just makes sense on a high performance smart humidifier like this one that can cover such large spaces.

If you don’t want to use the on-device controls, a remote is included and works pretty well. We wish this unit could have had a filter-free design like the Levoit, but no such luck.

What isn’t disappointing is the app integration features that this smart humidifier offers. The app pairs to your unit over Wi-Fi and lets you control the various settings with ease. It also has a scheduling function similar to the one on Levoit’s smart humidifier, which is insanely convenient.

And finally, this humidifier is compatible with both Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, the mark of any smart humidifier worth its salt.

Who’s It For?

The Elechomes is hard to recommend to any one group or type of customer. On the one hand, it has all the features, performance, and customizability as our top pick. But on the other hand, it doesn’t beat Levoit in any metric. Really, we think both smart humidifiers are a cut above the usual smart humidifier, and you should just go with the one you think looks best!

Pros
  • 5.5 liter water tank capacity
  • Max 55 hours of runtime
  • 755 sq-ft coverage rating
  • Up to 600 ml/hr mist volume
  • Fully adjustable mist volume, speed, etc
  • 3 different preset mist volumes
  • Auto mode actively regulates the humidity
  • 360 degree adjustable mist nozzle
  • Best in class humidification
  • Sleek design
  • LED display up front
  • Touch and remote controls
  • Barely any noise at all while operating
  • Cool/warm mist options available
  • High performance filter available
  • Replacement filters are relatively inexpensive
Cons
  • Tall design may not fit under very low shelves
