Today we are looking at the best floor standing humidifiers.
Floor-standing humidifiers are usually big-capacity units with coverage areas of 1000 square feet or above.
They do have unique challenges, though.
Firstly, there is the danger of damage due to spillage, especially if you have a wood or carpeted floor. They’re more difficult to move around if they don’t have wheels.
You have to make sure you place the unit where it is safe against the onslaught of kids and pets. And it has to be the right capacity for the room you want to use it in.
Mostly, floor standing humidifiers have feet or wheels that lift the units slightly off the floor. But some units are designed to be placed flat on the floor, and in this case, it is wise to take a few extra precautions.
Keep reading! We’re about to bring you the best of the best out of the floor standing humidifiers we tested.
And we’ll throw in a couple of handy hints from our test results.
Lacidoll 16-liter humidifier
BEST OVERALL
At a glance
This unit from Lacidoll is tailor-made for large rooms. It is a versatile powerhouse with a 16-liter capacity and a seemingly endless runtime. And it can humidify areas of more than 1000 square feet.
Design
The smooth surfaces of this humidifier reduce your general cleaning effort to a simple wipe-down. Nothing sticks to it.
The enormous capacity and extra power of the unit are packed into a sleek design with all the necessary bells and whistles. It is also the first humidifier we’ve come across that uses special sound dampening technology.
This almost noiseless operation makes bedrooms its ideal habitat.
Water Tank Capacity
The water tank capacity is humungous. It measures a full 16 liters (that’s 4.2 gallons) and using tap water to fill it is fine. It has the same smooth and rounded surfaces as the housing, which reduces cleaning to a wipe-down.
Proper cleaning has to happen once a fortnight, and standard cleaning procedures – a rinse with a vinegar/water solution – are perfect to keep the unit hygienic and functional. When we cleaned the unit as part of our test, we spent less than ten minutes on both the rinse and the wipe-down.
Runtime
With a 16-liter water reservoir, we expected the runtime to be impressive. And we weren’t disappointed! This humidifier from Lacidoll will run for up to 48 hours between refills, depending on your settings and the size of the room.
Coverage
The Lacidoll is specced to cover up to 1,000 square feet. With humidifying footprints, manufacturers usually understate their units’ coverage capacity slightly. We have found that you can use this unit in larger areas without dampening the humidifier’s performance.
It does well in smaller spaces too. Over humidification is sometimes a problem when less accurate humidifiers are used in rooms much smaller than their specified coverage area.
For our tests, we used it in a master bedroom (because the unit is so blissfully quiet) of 224 square feet. That’s about average for a master bedroom in the US, according to the United States Master Builders Association.
The unit performed beautifully in the 224-square-foot master bedroom, even though it is made for areas almost four times that size.
Mist Volume
As with the coverage, we expected the mist volume from a big unit with such a generous water tank capacity to be exceptional. And again, we weren’t disappointed. We got consistent readings of 1,000 ml/h mist production throughout our tests.
Noise Levels
To combat noise levels, the Lacidoll 16-liter humidifier employs water dripping technology that turns this into the quietest humidifier we’ve tested to date. In large rooms, it generates just below 30dB. For a unit this powerful, these levels are remarkable.
Special Features
The Lacidoll humidifier has 4 speeds – low, medium, high, and turbo. It will adjust its output to the size of the room you use it in.
It is a top-fill humidifier that minimizes spillage. You don’t have water tanks to remove and lug to the sink. Simply use a jug and refill it where it stands.
The built-in humidistat is super-accurate. It auto-detects the humidity in the room, adjusts itself, and keeps the moisture levels in the atmosphere stable according to your preset levels.
Filters don’t need to be replaced, which makes this unit cost-effective.
The display panel is large and clear. It also features a sleep mode, which dims the display at night.
As a safety feature, the unit will automatically shut down as soon as the water reservoir runs dry.
Who’s it for
If you have a home with large living spaces or bedrooms, this unit is ideal. It is also versatile enough to be used in smaller rooms.

- Super-accurate humidistat
- Wide water tank opening for easy cleaning
- 360-degree mist tube
- No filters to replace
- Clear display
- Lowest noise levels
- Auto shutoff
- Large water reservoir

Levoit LV600HH
BEST BUDGET
At a glance
The Levoit LV600HH has ample water capacity for long runtimes and a 280W electrical motor that generates enough mist to cover more than 700 square feet.
The unit gives you the option of warm or cold mist, and it’s easy to clean.
These features alone make it worth considering if you’re in the market for a floor standing humidifier.
Design
For years, customers have been complaining about how notoriously difficult humidifiers are to clean. In slow but steady progress, manufacturers are starting to listen. Levoit has hit the mark with the LV600.
We loved the smooth surfaces and the lack of sharp corners inside the water reservoir. There’s no place for mold to fungi to get a foothold, and cleaning is as easy as a wipe-down with a moist cloth.
And above all, we loved the water tank’s wide opening. One often needs double-jointed hands to reach into reservoirs during the cleaning process. I have hands like bear claws, and they slipped right in.
The control panel is large, clear, and easy enough to read even without spectacles. The control buttons are soft-touch and intuitive.
Water Tank Capacity
The Levoit’s water reservoir holds 6 liters (1.59 Gallons). It’s easy to remove and refill, and spillage is minimal if you’re careful. But be sure to empty the reservoir before moving the unit. If you don’t, spillage is almost guaranteed. We found this out the hard way. Twice.
Runtime
The 6-liter water reservoir gives this humidifier a runtime of a staggering 60 hours. That’s almost three whole nights and days without the need for a refill.
In the first week of our three-week test, all of us assumed somebody was refilling the water tank. Only when it eventually ran dry on day four, did we realize the unit had been happily operating on its first fill all the time!
Coverage
The manufacturer says this unit is good for humidifying an area up to 753 square feet. As we do with all the other units we test, we try to run it for a while in an area double the size the manufacturer recommends. It is in this test that the humidifier shows its true grit.
The Levoit has enough power to humidify areas of just over 1000 square feet, as per two of our tests. It is ideal for homes with large living spaces or bedrooms.
Mist Volume
This Levoit ticked all the boxes. It has the runtime, and it has the coverage. We were excited to see what it could produce in terms of moisture. Again, it performed off the charts for a unit of this size – consistently producing just over500 ml/h!
Noise Levels
The Levoit isn’t as quiet as the Lacidoll, but it wasn’t ever disturbing while we tested it – not even in the bedroom.
Special Features
Set your preferred humidity levels, and let the Levoit run on auto. It’s a “Plug & Play” unit.
The humidifier has a built-in sensor that will maintain the humidity levels for the entire runtime.
The LV600HH also doubles as an essential oil diffuser. Add a few drops of your preferred oils, and experience the benefits of aromatherapy at no extra cost!
The remote control is a nifty extra. It controls all the main functions of the humidifier.
Who’s it for?
This unit is for anyone who wants all the features of a large humidifier but at the price tag of a budget unit. And we found that, as far as the best floor standing humidifiers are concerned, this Levoit’s features far outstrip the price tag.
Pros
- Really fast
- Large coverage
- Big mist volume
- Ample water tank capacity
- Long runtimes
- Remote control
- Essential oil diffuser
- Quiet
- Large mist volume
- Auto on/off
- Auto shutoff when the tank is empty
Cons

Everlasting Comfort Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier
BEST PREMIUM
At a glance
The Everlasting Comfort Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier is large enough to use in big spaces, has a filter-less design, is easy to clean, and has a large water tank capacity.
And all of that is packed into one of the sleeker humidifier designs to have crossed our desk in a while.
It doubles as a diffuser – just add your own aromatherapy oils.
Design
This is an ultrasonic humidifier, which means it runs without filters. This makes it cheaper to operate.
The water tank and housing are easy to clean, and the unit is simple and intuitive to operate.
For some reason, it is specified for a 500 square feet area when most humidifiers of this capacity have humidifying footprints of 750 square feet and above. Read on to see how our tests revealed its true potential.
Water Tank Capacity
The 6-liter (1.59-gallon) water tank in this unit is large enough for long, worry-free runtimes. The reservoir’s opening isn’t as large as the other units in the test, but my hand still fitted reasonably comfortably, and that seems to have become the measuring standard for our test team.
Runtime
A fifty-hour runtime on a water reservoir with a 6-liter capacity is above average. That means you have two whole days and nights without having to worry about refilling the unit.
Coverage
Initially, we were disappointed with the manufacturer’s stated humidifying footprint. 500 square feet seemed surprisingly mediocre.
That said, we doubled the area we tested it in, and although it took a little longer, the Everlasting Comfort Cool Mist managed to elevate the moisture levels in 1000 square feet to an ideal 43%, and then sustain it for the entire runtime.
Mist Volume
The mist volume this humidifier produces comes in at par with larger, more powerful humidifiers. 500 ml/h is more than ample for areas far larger than the manufacturer’s conservative claim of 500 square feet.
Noise Levels
The Everlasting Cool Mist is quiet and unobtrusive. During the test, one of our team members said it reminds her of the kid in the back of the class that never says anything. That about sums it up.
It runs at around 36dB.
Special Features
The Everlasting Cool Mist Humidifier adds moisture to the atmosphere in areas of 500 square feet and up, for around 50 hours between refills.
It has an essential oil tray that turns your home into an aromatherapy haven.
There is a two-year, no questions asked replacement policy
