SIMSEN 95oz Dehumidifier

OVERALL BEST

If you’re looking for a dehumidifier that can cover a large room, has all the essential features, and looks good, the SIMSEN is for you. This beast of a machine will make sure you never have to worry about humidity in your room ever again!

The first thing that stands out about this dehumidifier is its portability; it is incredibly convenient to carry around. On top of that, the machine is super quiet when used in sleep mode, making it ideal for use while you’re trying to catch a good night’s sleep.

This dehumidifier features two working modes: High Power and Sleep. The high-power mode is perfect for when you need to dehumidify a new space quickly. However, this feature makes the machine about 10dB louder.

The sleep mode allows it to continue running at under 30dB—similar to the amount of noise in a library. While this does reduce the speed at which the dehumidifier removes moisture from the air, it’s perfect for when you want to focus on work or sleep.

The unit is rated to remove around a liter (or 34oz) of moisture from a room with a humidity level of 80% at 86°F – which is ideal for cleaning a damp basement or a bedroom within a few days.

This dehumidifier has a 95oz water collector tank, which would roughly fill up in 3 days of continuous use. However, it automatically shuts down when the collector tank is filled. This means it can be left on for a few days to do its work without you having to check on it continuously.

An excellent addition is the drain pipe, which you can use to automatically drain the unit and avoid emptying the water collector manually.

The SIMSEN dehumidifier has a sleek and modern design. It features customizable atmospheric lights, which help it seamlessly blend into its surroundings. While this dehumidifier only comes in a space gray color, it looks pretty good in most surroundings.

As a desiccant dehumidifier, it doesn’t use a compressor to cool down the water vapor, allowing the dehumidifier to remain quiet and work well in cooler temperatures. However, lacking a compressor means it does not perform as well as a compressor-type dehumidifier in higher temperatures.

However, this dehumidifier is significantly cheaper and power efficient than a compressor-dehumidifier – with the ability to operate in temperatures as low as 41°F.

On top of all that, the dehumidifier comes with a two-year warranty and lifetime customer support!

Pros
  • Extremely Quiet
  • Sleek design
  • Customizable atmospheric lights
  • Can operate in low temperatures
  • Auto shutdown
  • Large Water collector tank
  • Drain pipe
  • Power efficient
  • Portable with a sleek design
  • 2-year manufacturer warranty
Cons
  • Not ideal for larger spaces
  • No humidistat

SEAVON 1500ml Dehumidifier

BEST BUDGET

The SEAVON 1500ml Dehumidifier gives you the best bang for your buck as it is perfect for small rooms, bathrooms, or RVs. This dehumidifier provides all the essential features in a compact, modern design at an affordable price.

This dehumidifier removes around half a liter (about 17 oz) of moisture from your room at 80% humidity and 86°F. It only has a single operating mode, but the dehumidifier is quieter than its larger counterparts due to its small size. It is effortless to move around and store in smaller areas.

Its water collector tank has a capacity of around 51 oz that you need to manually drain once it fills up, which can be annoying. The dehumidifier shuts down automatically once the collector tanks fill up, which helps avoid spillages.

Although it only comes in white, the overall design is sleek and minimalistic – much better looking than most dehumidifiers in this price range. Interestingly, this dehumidifier also has two LEDs. These LEDs indicate whether the dehumidifier is powered on or if the water collection tank is full.

It’s a desiccant dehumidifier and is most efficient in temperatures between 59 and 86 °F. However, the manufacturer has specified that the dehumidifier will not work in temperatures under 41°F – meaning that it isn’t ideal for people living in areas with very high or very low temperatures.

While the build quality leaves much to be desired, and there’s no warranty from the manufacturer, at the price point, this dehumidifier is still leagues ahead of the competition!

Pros
  • Amazing value-for-money
  • Easy-to-use
  • LED indicators
  • Can operate in relatively low temperatures
  • Compact and sleek design
  • Accessible to transport and store
  • Super quiet
  • Power efficient
  • Automatic shut-down
  • Works exceptionally well in small rooms
Cons
  • It is only suitable for small spaces
  • You need to drain the water collector tank manually

FRIGIDAIRE High Humidity Dehumidifier

PREMIUM CHOICE

The Frigidaire High Humidity dehumidifier is among the best small-medium dehumidifiers on the market. This powerful dehumidifier lets you control the humidity level in much larger spaces.

The electronic controls are the most apparent upgrade from cheaper dehumidifiers. With the Frigidaire dehumidifier, you can set your desired humidity levels using a built-in digital humidistat, which stops you from overly dehumidifying your room.

But isn’t more dehumidification a good thing? Well, apparently not. As per the EPA guidelines, humidity levels between 30% and 50% are perfect for an indoor space. Going below 30% can result in dry air, which can cause irritation, chapped lips, and coughing.

The dehumidifier features two operating modes, continuous and comfortable, along with three operating fan speeds. This makes the machine perfect for those who want to control the humidity level precisely.

It can remove up to 960oz of moisture from the air daily, making it fantastic for spaces as big as 2000 square feet! The water storage tank has a capacity of around 325oz, with auto shut-down when the tank is filled.

The tank is super easy to remove due to its placement at the front of the appliance. The carry handle provides an easy way of carrying the bucket, while the splash guard ensures you don’t accidentally spill any water.

The built-in filter ensures that your dehumidifier does not get clogged with dust. While the filter indicator lets you know when it’s time to clean the reusable filter.

The dehumidifier uses a compressor for cooling, which enables it to operate at a much larger capacity. As with most compressor-based dehumidifiers, the Frigidaire High Humidity dehumidifier is perfect for warm to scorching temperatures.

Moreover, the Frigidaire High Humidity dehumidifier is considerably larger than our previous two options in size and dimension. Despite weighing around 45 pounds, it has caster wheels, making it far easier to move around.

Overall, this dehumidifier looks impressive with its white color, digital controls, and minimalistic design, and it is thus an excellent choice for any setting.

On the highest fan speed, the dehumidifier can get as loud as 51dB, which can get pretty annoying if someone is trying to sleep or work. On the lowest fan speed, this goes down to 47 dB – which is as much noise as a small fridge.

Did we mention that the dehumidifier is Energy Star certified to save electricity? Yup, that’s right. So the Frigidaire makes up for its high price by helping you save on your electricity bill.

Pros
  • Extremely powerful
  • Greater control over the humidity level
  • Wheels for easier transport
  • Works well in high temperatures
  • Auto shutdown
  • Three operational speeds
  • High dehumidifying capacity
  • Large water collector tank
  • Great build quality
  • Includes a humidistat
Cons
  • Not suitable for colder temperatures
  • Bulky and difficult to move

TCL Home Smart 50 Pint Dehumidifier

BEST LOOKING

If you’re looking for a smart, high-tech, and good-looking dehumidifier, then the TCL Home Smart 50 Pint Dehumidifier is hands down the best choice.

The TCL Home Smart Dehumidifier is a high-tech option for those who want a dehumidifier compatible with their home automation system.

Just like the Frigidaire dehumidifier, you can adjust humidity to the desired level but with the possibility of remotely controlling it using its mobile app, Alexa, or Google Assistant.

This dehumidifier is WiFi enabled and can send notifications about the humidity level in your room or the water tank status, regardless of where you are. The timer feature makes it possible to schedule the dehumidifier to turn off or on automatically.

The TCL Home Smart can remove 960oz of moisture from the air in a day. It also provides coverage for an area of up to 4,500 square feet, making it ideal for living rooms or larger studio apartments.

It also comes with a drainage pump variant for those who want to avoid the hassle of emptying the water tank manually once it fills up.

This dehumidifier has three modes: Continuous, Basement, and Bedroom. These modes allow you to set the dehumidifier as per your needs.

The continuous mode is perfect for when you want to keep the TCL Humidifier operating for long periods of time. The basement mode adapts the device to damp basement conditions and helps you eliminate that moldy smell. Finally, the bedroom mode keeps your room nice and cozy at a 55% relative humidity level.

Despite being a compressor-based dehumidifier, the TCL Home Smart allows for operations in lower temperatures due to its auto defrost and winter operation functions. This allows the dehumidifier to be usable in temperatures as low as 41° F – perfect for regions with unpredictable weather.

The TCL Home Smart is the best-looking of the dehumidifiers we reviewed. While similar in size to the Frigidaire High humidity Dehumidifier, it comes in two colors with a gloss finish.

The onboard controls look sleek and intuitive, while the curved edges give it a modern, elegant look. While the dehumidifier is pretty heavy at 41 pounds, the attachable wheels make it super easy to move.

  • It has smart features for user convenience
  • The large coverage area of 4,500 square feet
  • 1-year warranty
  • Three operational modes
  • Auto defrost feature
  • Drainage pump
  • Water tank status notifications
  • Works in colder temperatures
  • Attractive design with color options

Midea Cube 50 Pint Dehumidifier

WORTHY CONSIDERATION

The Midea Cube is a sustainable alternative to other medium-sized dehumidifiers on this list. With the Energy Star “Most Efficient” rating, this powerful dehumidifier can keep your humidity levels low while saving energy.

The Midea Cube uses cutting-edge technology to provide all the premium features of a dehumidifier while saving on energy costs. It’s equipped with all the essential features such as WiFi connectivity, app control, automatic shut-down, and humidity level control – all while providing 4,500 square feet of coverage.

Its innovative design sets the Midea Cube apart from the other dehumidifiers.

Unlike traditional medium-size dehumidifiers, the Midea Cube has a retractable body that can be pushed inside the water tank when not in use. This allows the dehumidifier to take up roughly 14 cubed inches of space and easily be stored or transported.

This design also allows the Midea Cube to have a whopping three times larger bucket than a conventional dehumidifier. This enables the dehumidifier to run three times longer than most other dehumidifiers.

This 203oz water storage bucket has an auto shut-down, low water level indicator, and drainage pump. These features allow your Midea Cube to function without supervision. You can set custom water level notifications to ensure the dehumidifier can stay operational.

The Cube takes convenience a step further. The drainage pump upgrade can remove the dehumidifier from the water bucket entirely.

This bucket-less mode automatically drains your dehumidifier through a standard hose – letting it do its job without any interruptions.

This dehumidifier can minimize them even further. The auto restart function powers the dehumidifier up with your selected settings whenever it is shut down due to a power outage.

As with other compressor-based dehumidifiers, the efficiency of the Midea Cube falls at lower temperatures. However, the auto defrost function allows the machine to function at temperatures as low as 40°F. This can be extremely useful in areas with the occasional snow and cold spells.

The dehumidifier comes in a gloss white finish and is exceptionally easy to set up. Plus, it is fully compatible with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, allowing you to control the dehumidifier remotely.

Pros
  • Innovative, compact design
  • Automatic shutdown
  • Power efficient
  • Wireless operation
  • Large water tank capacity
  • Built-in humidistat
  • Compatible with Alexa and Google
  • Large water collector tank
  • Upgradeable with an automatic water pump
  • Functions at low temperatures
  • Auto-defrost
Cons

The base model doesn’t have a drainage pump
Limited warranty

Important considerations when picking the best Humidifier

Water tank capacity

Dehumidifiers collect water vapor in the air and cool it down, turning it into liquid water. Thus, the more humid a room, the quicker the water tank fills. Therefore the size of the water tank in a dehumidifier determines how much of the absorbed moisture the dehumidifier can hold before being drained.

Most dehumidifiers automatically shut down once the water tank has been filled, meaning they will stop dehumidifying past this point. This can become a problem in dehumidifiers without an automatic drain pipe.

Ensuring that the tank size matches your needs is vital. For example, choosing a humidifier with a tank capacity of 325oz or more is better if you live in an area with high humidity.

Similarly, if you leave the dehumidifier unattended for extended periods, a larger tank would allow it to function longer.

However, if you don’t mind emptying the water tank once or twice a day, a smaller tank will give you similar functionality as one with a larger tank at a more affordable price.

If you want to avoid emptying the water tank, a dehumidifier with an automatic drainage pipe will be the right choice!

Humidistat

A humidistat is a small electronic dehumidifier that gives you a precise indication of the current humidity of the air. Humidistats are commonly used with air conditioners, humidifiers, and dehumidifiers to determine the moisture around the area wherein these dehumidifiers operate.

A humidistat works similarly to a thermostat—except instead of measuring the temperature of the air using a heat sensor, it measures and responds to humidity levels.

When considering buying a dehumidifier for your home, it’s crucial to ensure that it has a built-in humidistat. This saves you the hassle and cost of buying a separate humidistat and allows you to monitor the humidity level easily.

Humidity levels vary differently around the different areas of the house. For example, the humidity levels in the bathroom or the living room would differ from those in the attic.

The dehumidifier working all day without checking on the humidity levels can result in dry air. Additionally, it can increase the likelihood of contracting airborne viruses, exacerbating allergies, and even irritating skin conditions.

However, humidistats help maintain optimal humidity levels around a house, which makes them an important consideration for buying a dehumidifier.

Warranties

As per our research, it is not uncommon for a dehumidifier to stop functioning correctly after a year or two of use. Since most dehumidifiers are running 24/7, especially in humid areas, there’s a chance that they might stop working due to prolonged use.

A dehumidifier must come with at least a 1-year or, ideally, a 2-year warranty.

Noise Level

You’d want to choose a dehumidifier that has a minimal impact on your day-to-day activities. However, since all dehumidifiers have a fan, they make some noise when in use.

The amount of noise produced can get as loud as 53dB, roughly as loud as an office brimming with people. This can be highly annoying if one is recording, attending meetings, or trying to sleep.

While you can minimize this by lowering the fan speed, the noise levels can differ vastly between various models.

Most dehumidifiers come with a noise rating which indicates how loud the dehumidifier can get while running at various speeds. If high noise levels are a concern, make sure that the dehumidifier you choose has a noise rating of 30dB or lower—generally the noise level in a library. If the noise level is not a concern, there’s no point in getting a dehumidifier with a lower noise level.

It’s also important to remember that when the humidity levels are higher, the dehumidifier will likely make more noise since it consumes more energy.

Desiccant dehumidifiers are generally much quieter than ones that use a compressor. Similarly, the larger the dehumidifier’s capacity, the louder it will be.

Connectivity

As technology and home automation become more common, it might be worthwhile to consider choosing a dehumidifier with “smart” features that allow for ease of use.

WiFi connectivity and app support are generally good features in a dehumidifier. These allow you to not only turn the dehumidifier on or off from your phone but also control the humidity level remotely.

If you’re someone who spends a lot of time out of their house and wants to come home to a dehumidified room, the remote connectivity can allow you to turn the dehumidifier on a few hours before you get off work.

Similarly, if the dehumidifier is in an inaccessible place, such as an attic or cellar, the mobile app can allow you to check if the water bucket is filled. Again, this can save time and the hassle of checking if the dehumidifier is working correctly.

Dehumidifiers compatible with Alexa or Google Assistant allow you to incorporate the dehumidifier into your home automation system and configure it using voice controls.

Size

Medium to large-sized dehumidifiers can get pretty big and heavy. For example, a large dehumidifier can easily take up a couple of feet of space in your room, which makes it less than ideal to have them in smaller rooms.

While smaller dehumidifiers may be more portable, they just don’t work as well as larger dehumidifiers in bigger spaces. Thus, while buying a larger dehumidifier, it is essential to have wheels and handles that allow it to be moved around without causing too much trouble.

Similarly, the filters in these dehumidifiers can get choked with dust and other particles that require cleaning. So if you’re living in an area with a lot of dust, it’s crucial to clean the filters regularly. To make this process easier, ensure that the dehumidifier you choose has an easily accessible and washable filter.

A dehumidifier without a reusable filter might not be ideal for areas with a lot of dust or particles. This is because the filter needs to be replaced with a new one each time it clogs up. The cost of new filters can add up and increase the operational costs of the dehumidifier!

User Friendliness

Although some people just want to get rid of the humidity, some dehumidifiers boast several features that many individuals can find incredibly useful.

If you’re not worried about spending extra money, you’ll find dehumidifiers with many user-friendly features, such as automatic defrosting options, hour timers, and full tank indicators.

Some dehumidifiers also give you the option of selecting your preferred humidity level; with the simple click of a button, you can choose between standard and arid humidity levels.

Bottom line

Although essential to any household, not all dehumidifiers are created equal. Different versions come with their own set of pros and cons. Therefore, when choosing a dehumidifier, it’s always important to prioritize your needs and budget over getting additional features.

While it may be tempting to buy the largest dehumidifier with the most features, it’s much more essential to find a dehumidifier that can meet all your individual needs!
